In our Hot Stone Massage Course, smooth water-heated basalt stones are carefully applied to points on the body. The stones are coated in fragrant oil to increase your sense of relaxation and calm. When oil is smoothed gently onto the body, each stone in turn can be worked along by the therapist’s hands.
The client can experience the feel-good factor as they drift into a state of deep relaxation; melting away knots, aches and worries. The direct heat relaxes the muscles. It is said that one massage stroke applied with a hot stone is 10 times more intense and effective than it would be with normal hands-on massage.
1 day course from 9.30am – 4.30pm. Entry requirement: Body Massage Diploma or Certificate.
Course Fee: £135

History of Hot Stone Massage
Hot stones have been used in massage for over 4000 years. The Chinese have been treating themselves and others for thousands of years with hot stones to ease muscular pain. The Japanese put hot stones on their abdomens to aid digestion. In Roman baths, people had the choice to lay on tables with hot or cold stones. In America, native women placed a warm stone on their belly during their menstruation.
Until fairly recent times, hot stones were placed at the foot end of the bed to warm the feet. When hot stones are arranged along the chakras of the body, healing can take place.
Hot Stone Massage was also known in Hawaii, and made popular in the US by Mary Hannigan around 1993, who developed the LaStone Therapy.
